Baki Hanma is a young fighter who yearns to follow in the footsteps of his father, Yujiro, and become the strongest fighter in the world. Thru that he trains tirelessly and fights constantly to hone his skills and develop his body to achieve these goals. Many intense battles lay ahead of Baki as he goes about his quest to be the best and ultimately take the title of "King" from his father. Hanma Baki, son of the strongest grappler in the world, is trying to claim his father's throne. To do so he has to fight many; making lots of friends and enemies in the process.

	Yuri	Yuri is the current welterweight boxing champion of the world. Yet, he desires more. Yuri arrives in Japan to train against the world's best fighters so that he may succeed in capturing the world heavyweight championship and be known as the greatest boxer of all time.
	Yasha Ape	This ancient being lives alone on Yasha Crag near the mountain home of Keeichi Ando. The beast is said to be over 150 years old with a mouth full of fangs that can slice through anything unlucky enough to cross its path. It is this opponent that Baki thirsts to prove himself against.
	Kido	Kido is the leading officer in the juvenile crimes division of the local police department. He has spent years following Baki's exploits.
