Anna is the fiance of Yoh Asakura, and is an itako - a traditional Japanese shaman. Her specialty is channeling, and she can summon a spirit from anywhere, even from heaven where normal shamans can't reach Aggressive and decisive, Anna is a pragmatic person who, to most, appears cold and harsh. However, she has shown that she genuinely cares for those important to her, especially Yoh, and merely is dedicated to be "the ultimate Shaman Queen" and wife to Yoh, the first real friend that she ever had in her life. She firmly believes that Yoh Asakura is destined to become the Shaman King, and thinks that it's her duty as his fiance to make him train hard for it.

Hao Asakura is the main antagonist of the series, and the ancestor, twin brother and previous incarnation of Yoh Asakura, the main protagonist. The original Asakura Hao from 1000 years ago was re-incarnated in the two of them. They are the second known reincarnations of him. A powerful shaman of the Asakura clan, he trained to become Shaman King one thousand years prior to the start of the story. He had mastered all the arts and techniques of Onmyoudou, including the ability to see the future, use reishi (soul sight), command powerful spirits and allow and control the circumstances of reincarnation.

Yoh Asakura is an easy-going and cheerful guy (in some points) and seems to be a slacker. Yet, he comes from a long line of Japanese shamans. Even though he's in junior high (in the manga), he's engaged to marry Anna Kyoyama, an itako who helps him train to become the Shaman King.
