Synopsis
This drama is set in the late 1960s decade of Japan. The main rivalry depicted in the story is between Manpyo Daisuke (Kitaoji Kinya), a powerful banker, and his eldest son, Manpyo Teppei (Kimura Takuya), the executive managing director of a steel firm. For some reasons, Daisuke seem to dislike his own son and as Teppei seems to find out the reason for Daisuke's hatred, his whole life is turned upside down with fatal consequences.

Characters
Daisuke Manpyo
Daisuke is the head of the Manpyo family. His wife (Yasuko) and his four kids Teppei, Ginpei, Ichiko and Tsugiko. He is the Hanshin Bank President and with the recent pressure of banks merging and with the help of his assistant Aiko Takasu and Ataru Mima he hopes to one day take over a bigger bank, which has never happened.

Yasuko Manpyo
Yasuko is the mother of the Manpyo family, she tries to make Daisuke happy but because of the past he can only be angry and bitter towards her. She loves her children and will do anything to protect them.

Teppei Manpyo
Teppei is the eldest son of the Manpyo family. He has a wife (Sanae) and a son. He runs the family steel company (Hanshin Special Steel) and hopes to one day make a blast furnace which will make Hanshin Special Steel a worldwide competitor. Teppei also ends up turning the family upside down with questioning just if his dad (Daisuke) is really his biological father.

Ginpei Manpyo
Ginpei is Hanshin bank's Financing Division Chief and the second eldest son of the Manpyo family. He doesn't care what happens to him and clearly thinks of himself and just a pawn in his dads plans.

Ichiko Mima
Ichiko is the Manpyo's Eldest Daughter and is married to Ataru. Her marriage was arranged but she really loves Ataru and she supports her younger sister to not have a marriage she doesn't want.

Tsugiko Manpyo
Tsugiko is the youngest daughter of the manpyo family, she is pressured by Aiko with a arranged marriage that will help the family but at the same time listens to Teppeis advice to not do it and to follow her own heart.

Sanae Manpyo
Sanae is Teppei's wife, she belives in Teppei and no matter how hard it gets she stays with him. Even though she ends up hearing that her marriage might be nothing but a way for the Manpyo family to gain more power.

Ataru Mima
Ataru is the Budget Bureau of the Ministry of Finance, Assistant Director. He is married to Ichiko. He is used by Daisuke to try and make his take over plans work.

Aiko Takasu
Aiko is the assistant of Daisuke Manpyo, she finds ways for Hanshin bank to gain more power such as arrange marriages in the family. She is Daisukes mistress and thinks Yasuko is useless and in the way.
