Synopsis

In China, there lies a famous training springs, a place where martial artists can hone their skills to great levels. Unfortunately, the springs are also cursed! Teenage martial artist Ranma falls into the "spring of drowned girl" and now changes into a woman every time he's splashed with cold water. That doesn't stop his father from engaging him to Akane, the daughter of an old friend and a tough girl who has better thing to do than worry about boys. But Akane isn't the only girl who has a chance for Ranma's affections -- two other girls have also been betrothed to him. But Ranma has better things to do than worry about his love life -- such as making a plethora of crazy rivals and even more suitors!

I've really liked this anime so far. I'm only about halfway done but it seems to suck you in even though it's a pretty old anime. The only problem I have is some of the characters are pretty annoying (ryoga and Mousse) blaming all their problems on Ranma even though it's their own faults they turned out like that. Hopefully things will change in the later episodes but I think anyone would enjoy this anime.

I give it an 8/10 and encourage anyone who hasn't seen it, and has the time, to watch it.

Characters

Ranma Saotome
Training with Genma at Jusenkyo in China, Ranma was thrown into a spring called Nyanniichuan. He emerged as a young girl, according with the spring's curse. When splashed with hot water, he changes back to a boy, but when splashed with cold to room temperature water, he turns into a girl again. As for our well-built 16-year-old hero/heroine, the martial arts is his life. He also possesses a rather large and easily wounded ego, believing his physical strength to be his only virtue.

Akane Tendo
Akane is Soun's youngest daughter at age 16. She is a very insecure, awkward and sensitive girl with a hot temper and a big heart. Also a boy-hating girl, yet is stalked by nearly all of the boys at school, including Tatewaki Kuno. Though she denies her interest in Ranma, she is still jealous of his other fiancees (Shampoo and Ukyo).

Genma Saotome
Genma is Ranma's insensitive, selfish and greedy father. He originally took Ranma to Jusenkyo because he'd heard about it in a Chinese brochure even though he can't read a word of Chinese. He also got cursed, turning into a panda.

Shampoo
Originally looking to seek revenge on Ranma by killing him. She is no longer fixated on wanting to kill Ranma, and now just wants to marry him. Unaware at first that girl and boy Ranma were the same person, she is heartbroken upon learning the truth and returns home to be retrained at Jusenkyo by her great-grandmother Cologne, but she became cursed and turns into a cat — the one thing Ranma fears most.

Tatewaki Kuno
Tatewaki Kuno is an upperclassman at Furinkan High and was the big man on campus – at least until Ranma came along. Hailing from a very wealthy family, he is also captain of the kendo club. He is both in love with Akane and ranma's female form.

Kodachi Kuno
Kodachi Kuno is the sister of Tatewaki and attends classes at St. Hebereke, an all-girls school. Kodachi fell in love with the male Ranma after he saved her from a fall before the match. Over the course of the series, she shows up with various plots to make him love her.

Ryoga Hibiki
Ryoga is a childhood rival of Ranma's and is infamous for losing his way thanks to a horrible sense of direction. He seeks Ranma out with a large grudge, and discovers Akane who thinks that little “P-chan” is quite cute. Of course, she doesn’t know that it’s really Ryoga, but that doesn’t stop him from falling in love with her. He's usually shy, humble and polite, especially around women.
