Futami Nozomu is the classic male of the harem genre, trying to balance personal interactions with six sets of twins in the town and his school where he frequently finds himself uncomfortably at the center of their attentions.
The artwork of Futakoi is unfortunately quite unremarkable. It has the flat two dimensional feel of a Saturday cartoon with simple shading, plain backgrounds and a muted color palette. The animation itself is full of pans and simplified movement that betray cost cutting techniques.
I eagerly anticipated the storyline of Futakoi; a lucky guy struggles with the competing affections of two girls from not only one pair of twins, but multiple sets of twins! Unlike other harem anime however, the strange turn of events, awkward situations, and out-of-context exposures are not used for humorous effect. Consequently, progress in the various characters’ relationships is stymied for no apparent reason and Nozomu’s indecision becomes a frustrating aspect of this short series.
