Ergo Proxy

Synopsis
In a future where the world has been ravaged by a nuclear apocalyse, there exists salvation in a domed city named "Romdeau", where humans and their android servants, the autoreivs, live in. Under the implementation of complete management control, it is a paradise where feelings are literally discarded, and the governing council dictates the way of life the citizens should live. But this utopian landscape is soon broken by a series of mystifying murders. Real Mayar, a female inspector from the Citizen Information Bureau, along with her autoreiv partner Iggy, are tasked to solve the murder cases.

This anime has many similarities with 'Witch Hunter Robin' and 'Wolf's Rain', the apocalyptic setting, the style it's animated in and with the same kind of mystery that enshrouds the series.

It certainly fished up a few memories from Bladerunner aswell.

It's not a bad anime, but I think the story really struggles towards the end and most of the elements in it feel almost cliché by now due to their popular usage, at least to me.

The OST is decent, I was surprised to hear 'Radiohead' as the ending song. Unfortunately that album has been used way too many times (and for good reason I might add) already and just sounds out of context.

The series imposes alot of culture onto you but not in a good way, most of it just feels forced and out of context. There is a nice quiz at the beginning of episode 15 however (I could answer them all but one, yay!), unfortunately the rest of the episode sucks.

The storyboard is tilted for the sole purpose of confusing the viewer and I just don't think it works well, it'd have been much better to just keep it straight.

This show gives the impression of somehow being deep but I'm fairly confident that even with a PhD in psychoanalysis this story would hardly be any more intriguing. I'm frankly quite tired of Japanese films and anime shows being deliberately cryptic or sometimes even incomprehensible altogether for the sake of being cool or artistic (or according to my theory, for the sake of making up for the utter lack of story).

In any case, this series is cool but that's about it. There's no reward waiting for anyone who watches through it all, so don't unless you're thrilled about this series or simply bored to death already.

I'd rate it a 5/10, it's a quality production but you get better entertainment value out of Legally Blonde.
