Synopsis
Toraji Ishida is a high school kendo teacher. His friend and fellow kendo teacher makes him a bet: if Ishida can assemble a girl's kendo team that can defeat his girl's team in a practice match, he'll treat Ishida to free meals at his father's sushi restaurant for a whole year. Now Ishida must find five girls to join the team.

Characters
Toraji Ishida
Aka Kojiro. Politics and economics teacher and Kendo Club instructor of Muroe high school. He is perpetually broke and lives from paycheck to paycheck. He often does not have enough left over for food after paying bills and debts so he ends up taking handouts from his students.


Tamaki Kawazoe
First year high school student. Kendo prodigy who refuses to join the school's Kendo Club because she thinks it is unnecessary. She already practices at home which is a kendo school headed by her father.


Kirino Chiba
Second year high school student. The female captain in the Kendo Club. Energetic and enthusiastic, she dreams of making it to the nationals.


Miyako Miyazaki
First year high school student. A very pretty and friendly girl, and to the surprise of many, the girlfriend of Danjuro. Hides a very dark and sadistic personality that comes out particularly when Danjuro is put into grief or distress.


Yuji Nakata
First year student who joins the kendo club. He was a part of his junior-high school's kendo club and attended the Kawazoe Dojo. His ability is top eight at the prefectural games when he was in the junior-high school, and in the Q&A of the manga, Tamaki asserts he is stronger than Toyama.


Sayako Kuwahara
Second year high school student. The female kendo club member who is sometimes missing. She and Kirino have known each other since elementary school.


Satori Azuma
Satori Azuma, a first-year high school studentand is the fifth and the last person to join the Kendo Club. She is very talented in kendo. In fact, Satori is the second strongest in the club, with Tamaki being the strongest.Due to the fact that she is rather naïve, she is tricked by Miyako Miyazaki into joining the club, thinking that Kendo will help her improve her studies. Satori is comically clumsy, as demonstrated in the ending sequences and some of the previews in the anime.
